Whitewave is born
In 1990 - Whitewave was established by John and Anne. Anne, a Skye local and John from further South met working on Raasay. Here an idea was formed and Whitewave was born! It has remained in its current location for 35 years: originally a small venture run from their house offering a kayaking session for just 12 pounds ! This venture morphed and changed over the years including more activities: rock climbing, canoeing, hill walking, archery and mountain boarding, although these finally began to cease when Covid-19 hit. Whitewave also at one point had a post office, a cafe, offered accommodation and catering, and even held small trad music festivals! Today it continues to offer fantastic self catering accommodation in the form of apartments, pods and even space for a few campervans.

The connection…
In 2012 - Cam (one half of North Skye Outdoors) arrived at Whitewave fresh out of high school with plans to become an outdoor instructor. Cam spent the Summer of 2012 following around Whitewave instructors, picking up skills and trying not to get in the way, before heading off to Ireland to gain more experience. Fast forward to 2024 and Cam returned to Whitewave with Izzy and some useful qualifications. Here a seed was planted and the suggestion to rekindle activities was made. Cam and Izzy already had big plans in place to guide in New Zealand in 2024 but vowed to return in Autumn 2025..

North Skye Outdoors begins…
Autumn 2025 - Cam and Izzy returned and brought a trailer of sea kayaks with them! They arrived on Skye and immediately set to work creating North Skye Outdoors. They put their own twist on Whitewave which came before them - swapping climbing equipment and mountain boards for paddleboards and sea kayaks, and adding some instructing and safety courses. We're excited to see what happens next in this story…
